As the school year winds down and AP Exams approach, we're excited to announce the launch of our Junior Jumpstart program – a series of college counseling workshops designed to give your child a head start on their college application journey.

What is Junior Jumpstart?

Junior Jumpstart is a three-week intensive program running from May 20th to June 7th. During this time, students will participate in daily, 50-minute small group sessions led by their dedicated college counselor. This personalized approach ensures each student receives focused guidance and ample opportunity to ask questions.

What will students learn?

These interactive sessions will delve into key aspects of the college search and application process. Here's an overview of the topics covered over the 15 days:

  • Week 1:
    • Mock Admissions: Gain experience through a simulated admissions panel.
    • Values and Priorities: Identify what's truly important to them in a college experience.
    • Metrics: Understand how grades, test scores, and extracurriculars factor in.
    • Cialfo Exploration: Utilize our college exploration and application platform (Cialfo) effectively.
  • Week 2:
    • Shortlist Development: Start building a strong list of potential colleges looking at universities of interest to the students as well as those suggested by counselors.
    • Activity List Building: Craft a compelling list of extracurricular involvement.
    • UC Application preparation: Get a jumpstart on the UC application process specifically by reviewing the essay prompts called Personal Insight Questions.
  • Week 3:
    • Personal Statement Brainstorming: Develop ideas for a powerful personal statement.
    • UK UCAS Hub: Navigate the UCAS application system for UK universities (if applicable).
    • Writing and Feedback: Refine writing skills and receive constructive feedback from counselors.
    • Strategizing: Develop a personalized application timeline and action plan.

Benefits of Participating:

  • Gain valuable insights into the college application process, reducing stress and anxiety in senior year.
  • Develop strong self-awareness regarding their academic strengths, interests, and values.
  • Start building key application materials like their activity list and college shortlist.
  • Receive personalized guidance and feedback from their dedicated college counselor.
  • Approach senior year with confidence and a clear roadmap for success.

We will be assigning tasks throughout the program (and even throughout the summer), allowing students to gain practical experience and make significant progress on their college applications. This head start will empower them to navigate the senior year application process with greater focus and enthusiasm.

Further details regarding specific class schedules and assigned tasks will be communicated shortly. In the meantime, we encourage you to discuss this program with your child.

We believe Junior Jumpstart is an invaluable resource for our grade 11 students and look forward to partnering with you in guiding them toward their future academic endeavors.
